Anfjord Salmon gets zoning plan approval for Breivik site

Andfjord Salmon reported that it has secured municipal approval of the zoning plan for its proposed land-based fish farm in Breivik, Andøya, Norway.

The company intends to build a facility with a production volume of 25,000 tons of fish, head-on gutted (HOG). A zoning plan specifies the use, conservation and design of land and physical surroundings. It consists of a detailed land-use plan map with associated planning provisions and a plan description.

“Developing and operating fish farming facilities in harmony with the local environment, while capitalizing on the natural advantages of being located at Andøya, is at the core of Andfjord Salmon’s business plan,” according to  Martin Rasmussen,  chief executive officer Andfjord Salmon. “We are really pleased that Andøy municipality continues to demonstrate its support to local job and value creation here at Andøya.”

Andfjord Salmon has developed a sustainable aquaculture concept for land-based farming of Atlantic salmon, based on a flow-through technology solution at Kvalnes on the island of Andøya on the Arctic Archipelago of Vesterålen, Norway.

Earlier, the company announced plans for its first smolt release this month at the facility.

Andfjord Salmon also secured land and land rights to two other areas at Andøya, called Breivik and Fiskenes.
